Tuesday Memes: The Secret of Enduring Love

Every Tuesday Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea hosts First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, where you can share the first paragraph, or a few, of a book you are reading or thinking about reading soon.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Today I am spotlighting The Secret of Enduring Love by Peter Skivlas

Across the Vedic subcontinent Princess Damayanti embarks on a heart-pounding quest to discover and win the heart of her perfect beloved Prince Nala. First she must risk her life to pass seemingly impossible tests set up by her guru Great Swan, Goddess Shakti, Lords Shiva, Indra and other immortals.

Meanwhile, Kala – the tormented god of time – is smitten by Damayanti’s beauty and hatches up a plan to destroy Nala by using three diabolical gold dice in a deadly game of chance. This 21st century retelling of an ancient tantric love story reveals the roots of yoga and how past pitfalls must be redeemed to learn the secret of enduring love.

Opening Paragraph
Long ago in the heart of India lived a princess  whose beauty and grace were praised in song by bards across all lands and seas. Here name was Damayanti and in her time she was as adored by men and women of all ages as any modern day movie star. Linbs and leaves on fruit-bearing trees swayed within reach when she passes. Wild animals vied with each other to eat mangos and nutes from her hand. Even the gods pined to spend a moment in her glowing presence. But none knew what she pined for.

My Teaser
It took time for Damayanti to orient herself to language coming out of meditation.
But when she realized the king had joined her, she spoke pausing as though in contemplation afert each word, “Father, how can I serve you?”
