Every Tuesday Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea hosts First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, where you can share the first paragraph, or a few, of a book you are reading or thinking about reading soon.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!
A twisty story about love, loss, and lies, this contemporary oceanside adventure is tinged with a touch of dark magic as it follows seventeen-year-old Wendy Darling on a search for her missing surfer brothers. Wendy’s journey leads her to a mysterious hidden cove inhabited by a tribe of young renegade surfers, most of them runaways like her brothers. Wendy is instantly drawn to the cove’s charismatic leader, Pete, but her search also points her toward Pete's nemesis, the drug-dealing Jas. Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she's falling hard for Pete. A radical reinvention of a classic, Second Star is an irresistible summer romance about two young men who have yet to grow up--and the troubled beauty trapped between them.
Opening Paragraph
I can smell the bonfire before I even get out of the car. It’s dusk, and the sun is low on the water. According to my watch, it’s been exactly four hours since I officially graduated high school. But I don’t feel any more grown-up now than I did this morning.
My Teaser
Fly, I tell myself, looking at the sky above us, seagulls screaming overhead. Behind us, the ocean stretches out endlessly, so beautiful that it’s hard to believe it might have swallowed my brothers whole.

The opening paragraph sounds true to many people. The teaser made me wonder what happened to the brothers.

A beautiful teaser! It sounds like something I would definitely pick up!
ReplyDeleteThis one is on my review stack but I haven't gotten to it yet. I still have a few April review books to read before I get to the May ones. My teasers this week are from The Chance by Robyn Carr and House of Ivy & Sorrow by Natalie Whipple. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm hooked. A contemporary version of Peter Pan! "Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning." Love it!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the opening, I read on. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteThe Teaser is wonderful. How could something so beautiful, the ocean, steal her brothers? Interesting book.
ReplyDeleteI really like that opening. The bonfire makes me wonder where she is -- at the beach? at some kind of autumn celebration? Then the mention of graduating from high school tells me it's summer and also reveals her age. There's a whole lot of info in that one paragraph!
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser is from SNOW FENCE ROAD.
This sounds interesting - I was turned off by the cover (seemed too cheesy romance), but liked the summary…and I love the surfing aspect.
